Nordic Solar inaugurates its second solar park in Lithuania
On Wednesday, 1st of October, Nordic Solar officially inaugurated its second solar park in Lithuania, located in the Svencionys region northeast of Vilnius. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by the Danish Ambassador to Lithuania, the Mayor of Svencionys, and senior representatives from national energy authorities, alongside Nordic Solar.

The solar park was connected to the grid this spring, making it the second solar park developed and constructed by Nordic Solar that will supply citizens in Lithuania with power from solar energy produced in the country. With its production capacity of 80 MWp, the solar park will contribute to strengthening the country's self-sufficiency in renewable energy and supply more than 35,000 Lithuanian households.
This follows the successful launch in 2024 of Nordic Solar’s first solar park in Lithuania, a 100 MWp park in Moletai, which remains the country’s largest to date. Together, the two projects underline Lithuania’s ambitious energy strategy, aiming to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix from 30 per cent in 2020 to 45 per cent by 2030, reaching 80% by 2050.
“For us at Nordic Solar, it has been a privilege to develop and construct solar PV – and soon also BESS energy storage – here in Lithuania. We have truly felt that Lithuania is a country where not only developers such as us, but also local municipalities like Svencionys, the regulator VERT, and the grid operator Litgrid, all share the same understanding of the importance of local energy production and storage. Looking across the European countries where we are active, we can confidently say that Lithuania is a place where the distance between ambition and realisation is remarkably short,” says Nikolaj Holtet Hoff, CEO of Nordic Solar.

“We are rapidly moving towards the goal of reaching 8 GW of renewable energy generation capacity by 2028. The successful synchronization with continental European networks and the growing output from solar and wind power plants clearly show that long-term investments in renewables are delivering results. This is a significant achievement that demonstrates we are on the right track – strengthening Lithuania’s energy independence and creating a more secure and sustainable energy future. Every new solar park is a long-term investment in our country’s security, economy, and climate goals”, says Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, Energy Minister of Lithuania.

Mayor of Svencionys Region, Rimantas Klipčius, the Danish Ambassador to Lithuania, Grete Sillasen, and other representatives of Lithuanian energy institutions cut the ribbon together with Nikolaj Holtet Hoff and COO of Nordic Solar Volkan Cebe.
Nordic Solar plans to add BESS to its two solar parks in Lithuania
“We very much appreciate our ongoing and proactive dialogue about bringing BESS energy storage to this site in Svencionys in 2026. If we succeed, we will be able to ensure electricity here in the Svencionys area not only when the sun is shining – but also at other times of the day, drawing on both our solar PV production and wind energy stored in the BESS facility,” says Nikolaj Holtet Hoff.

The new solar park in Svencionys is built with Nordic Solar’s own patented substructure
The new solar park in Svencionys is built with Nordic Solar's proprietary steel substructure, for which the company has obtained a European patent. The structure is optimised so that the mounted bifacial modules capture the most radiation. The same solution is used in the solar park in Molètai to optimise solar energy production from the back of the solar panels.
