Nordic Solar inaugurates its first solar park in Sweden

On Wednesday, June 25th, Nordic Solar marked a significant milestone with the official inauguration of Lindesberg Solar Park in Medinge – the company’s first operational solar park in Sweden. The park is located a few hundred kilometres west of Stockholm, in the municipality of Lindesberg.

Previously known under the project name ‘Opera’, Lindesberg Solar Park in Medinge has a production capacity of 22 MWp and is expected to generate enough electricity to cover the average annual consumption of approximately 7,000 European households. The project not only represents a step forward in Nordic Solar’s international development but also contributes to Sweden’s transition to renewable energy.

The opening ceremony was attended by Joakim Johansson, CEO of Lindeenergi, Patrik Vilhelm Setterberg, CFO of Nordic Solar, and Viveka Åkerhielm, the owner of the land where the solar park is located. Each delivered a speech before jointly cutting the ribbon to officially open the site.

Joakim Johansson, CEO of Lindeenergi, emphasised the importance of local energy production in his speech:

“Our collaboration with Nordic Solar throughout the project has been both educational and rewarding. Local electricity production makes the grid more resilient to disruptions and outages. By integrating small-scale energy sources into the local network – especially in combination with energy storage – communities can be better prepared for crises or disturbances in the national system. Solar energy is completely renewable and produces no emissions during operation. By using locally produced solar power, we reduce the need for fossil fuels and contribute to Sweden’s climate goals,” said Joakim Johansson.

Patrik Vilhelm Setterberg, CFO of Nordic Solar, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration and hinted future ambitions for the site:

“We have truly appreciated the close and professional cooperation with Lindeenergi throughout this project. Lindesberg solar park began generating electricity in April, marking an important milestone in our efforts to expand renewable energy in Sweden,” said Patrik Vilhelm Setterberg.

Sweden’s first solar park with a tracker-system

Lindesberg solar park in Medinge will be the first solar park in Sweden equipped with a tracker system. This technology allows the solar panels to follow the sun’s movement from east to west throughout the day, increasing energy output compared to fixed-tilt systems.
