The Södertälje BESS project has a total capacity of 9 MW/18 MWh, designed as a two-hour system. The facility is based on a battery solution supplied by Huawei and will support grid stability and flexibility in the Swedish power system.

As part of the project development, deforestation and ground preparation works were completed, and the facility was successfully grid connected ahead of final commissioning. Following completion of testing and approvals, the project has now reached COD and entered commercial operation.

Nordic Solar developed the project and signed a turnkey EPC contract with Soltech Energy, which has been responsible for construction and delivery of the facility.

“Reaching commercial operation for the Södertälje battery project is an important step for Nordic Solar and a clear demonstration of our ability to develop and deliver battery energy storage solutions,” says CEO Nikolaj Holtet Hoff. “Battery storage plays a key role in enabling a more flexible and resilient energy system, and we are happy to see this project now fully operational.”

The Södertälje project forms part of Nordic Solar’s broader strategy to integrate battery energy storage alongside renewable energy generation and to support the continued development of a stable and efficient electricity grid.
